The Training Bargain of the Century
Punk Rock HR pro, Laurie Ruettimann, is offering sexual harassment training that makes sense:
Your company requires ’sexual harassment’ training. Back in the 90s, it was a one-hour PowerPoint presentation that was delivered over lunch. Then employees started hiring lawyers (god forbid), so the training morphed into ‘respectful employee conduct’ training sessions. Then some genius in HR/Marketing rebranded the endeavor as ‘conscious workplace interactions’ training sessions and sold toolkits and integrated software programs. HR decided to save time and incorporate some diversity training into those sessions, too, but it’s hard to talk about diversity when there isn’t much diversity in the room.
In the spirit of cutting to the chase, I’m starting a training division under my Punk Rock HR LLC Conglomerate and I am offering a comprehensive training session called Please Just STFU and Do Your Job: One Easy Step To Avoid Workplace Litigation.
Go read the rest of her idea. Sometimes L&D can be a little to much like the kids who used to play D&D. Don’t ovethink it, kids. Roll the dice and do what’s right.
Clueless HR People
The Diversity Solutions in the Workplace video above is the most impactful training video I’ve ever seen. The subtitle of this piece is “HR realizes they need some diversity training” and that nails it. I’m still shaking my head about how good this is.
There’s a communication lesson embedded in this training film: Show, don’t tell. Can you imagine what this would have been like in PowerPoint lecture form? No freaking way. Kudos to the writers, actors and film makers in Diversity Solutions in the Workplace, which was staged by the Drama Consultant. Brilliant.
And special thanks to Laura for bringing this to my attention. If someone from Drama Consultant reads this, please drop me a note. I’d like to talk about this and more.
You Pecha Kucha You Can
Wouldn’t it be great if every corporate PowerPoint presentation followed the Pecha Kucha format?

Got Ethics?
Here’s an alarming statistic from M.B.A.s. The Biggest Cheaters: more than half of MBAs report having cheated in school in the last year. And, “Many of these students reportedly believe cheating is an accepted practice in business.” Um, Got Ethics? This is scary for those of you out there providing ethics training. Some of your new employees are starting in a deep hole.
