7 Types of Human Resource Practitioners

Posted on Monday, September 21, 2009 by Frank Roche

Michael Vandervort is one of the very best thinkers and writers in the HR space. His blog, The Human Race Horses, is one of the very limited group of blogs in my “must read” category on Google Reader.

That’s a long way around to saying, “Read this.” Mike writes about the 7 Types of Human Resource Practitioners in his article, This Is Your Brain on HR. It’s a really powerful view of how HR is splitting into two areas. I tend to spend a lot of time picking at what Mike calls “Preventers, Placeholders and Victims.” Now I have a name for those types.

Go read the article — it’s one of the best of 2009. Leave Mike a comment. And remember:

If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the precipitate.

@Michael I mean it, brother. That is a really great way to think about HR types. It’s funny, because when we read those articles about HR not working, it’s the victims and placeholders we’re talking about. I like how you framed this…really great stuff and required reading in my estimation. You could write a book using your 7 Types as a framework. I’d buy it.

Hey, I’ll take it under advisement!
