8 Ways Kate Gosselin of Jon and Kate Plus 8 is the Essence of Bad HR

[As you can imagine, many images of Kate Gosselin are copyright protected. I searched high and low for a good creative commons image but came up short. However, for those of you who don't know about the hair, I wanted you to get a sense. The dog is just funny and no implication of how Kate looks -- I think she's pretty. (Except for the hair.) Kate Gosselin of Jon and Kate Plus 8 reminds me of a certain Bad HR archetype — someone from the “Personnel” days. Here are Eight Reasons Kate Gosselin of Jon and Kate Plus 8 is the Essence of Bad HR:
- The hair that must be obeyed. You can recognize Bad HR by their bad haircuts.
- She adores rules. Lots of them. Ask Jon. Bigtime policies=Bad HR.
- She constantly clamors for free stuff. Ever been to SHRM? It’s hand-to-hand combat for tschotschkes.
- Have you ever seen her organize a picnic? It’s done with military precision. Bad HR loves their picnics.
- She treats everyone like babies. The kids and the adults. In Bad HR, everyone is a misbehaving child.
- She unflinchingly fires people. Lots of them. Even her family members. And in Bad HR fashion, she has no remorse.
- Teamwork means “do what I say.” Bad HR likes to use a lot of fancy code words but not really live them.
- She thinks the show is only about her. Bad HR types do a lot of navel gazing. (Reconstructed bellybuttons need love, too.) They don’t worry about the company or the bigger picture.
What do you think? Would Kate Gosselin be great in HR or what?

She’s “flavor of the month” news. Bad HR implements “flavor of the month” programs whether or not they are right for their business situation.
I don’t know too much about the show, but how about in Bad HR looking good is more important that doing good. She seems to have morphed from ‘mom’ to ‘brand’ without much regard for the kids. Bad HR makes sure it looks good by making sure it has all the requisite programs (diversity, employee picnic, anniversary plaques, etc.) but does not even try to assess those programs against organizational objectives, i.e. impact to the ‘kids’.
Steve…wow! That is such a great point. Fab. Rather look good than feel good. Super points.
Shoot, everyone tells me that I look like her. My hair is longer in the back. Darn it, I’m doomed.
I never thought of it that way Frank – but it makes total sense!!
@Amanda Thanks…kind of tongue in cheek…fun to write.
