Win a FREE Copy of the KnowHR Book!

Posted on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 by Jessica Chappell

Want your own copy of the KnowHR book? We’re giving out ten copies of the book – to the five best nominations we receive. All you need to do is nominate a co-worker who doesn’t currently read KnowHR. Let us know why they should receive a free book. If we like what you say, you and your nominee will each receive a free copy.

All we need from you is your name, the name of the person you are nominating, and your reason for nominating that co-worker. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, June 12, 2009. The winners will announced on Monday, June 15, 2009 and the books will be shipped right away!

The five winners will have their names posted on the KnowHR blog as well as their co-workers name and reason they were nominated.

To enter the giveaway, reply in the comments section on KnowHR. Make sure to fill in the email field with an address where we can contact you (this field will not be published). We’ll ask you for your shipping information as soon as you’ve won!

I won’t be playing, because I have my very own copy of the book, but I just want to say that it’s a great way to open up a coworker to how HR really should be, cutting the crap and digging into the real reasons we have HR in the first place. The book isn’t going to be as good as you expect it to be. (It’s much better.) :-D

I’d like to nominate my colleague George Eichholzer. He should receive a free book… because he’s my favorite hiring manager.

My husband Jeff Bowman needs a free copy of this book! Why? He’s an optometrist with a practice in rural America. He often becomes frustrated with my HR suggestions involving his unique dilemmas; hence “I’ll do it my own way” type ideology (even though I’m PhD/ABD in I/O Psych). He could use a reliable source other than his wife telling him how to make life better for his people. KnowHR, I need your help.

I’d like to nominate my entire HR department. Not because they don’t do a good job, but because they need all the ammo they can get to continue to get better. We are an organization the lives by the credo “we’ve always done it that way.” My HR group is trying hard to make changes and I want to help them in any way I can.

I have 2 nominations. The first ai My co-worker, lests call him A. A takes too narrow a view of all things HR. He needs mind expansion and I know a good book that will help him if anything can. My second nomination is a client who should get to know iFractal because they could use help communicating their programs.

I need a spell check and edit function for comments.

I nominate Compensation Czar Kenneth Feinberg, who has accepted another job with no apparent upside. While he has a history of finding solutions to thorny problems, he does not (so far as I know) have a background in HR. Given that he’s about to embark on the Mother of All HR Jobs, let’s give him a Primer, no the Primer. Oh, and I can call him a co-worker because, technically, he works for me.

My former boss MK Modaffari, who’s trying to rebuild an HR function with a limited toolbox, and would appreciate some straight-talking no-nonsense advice.

I nominate my supervisior, Sara, for teaching me everything I know about HR – even if it wasn’t always pretty!!

Although my nominee is not a co-worker, I find this person to be very deserving of the knowledge that can be learned from this book. She is my mom. She has dedicated her life to her four children. I, being her second born, have taken full advantage of her migration to the US by absorbing knowledge from anywhere I can and finding my voice in an HR career. She always looks to me for advice with my siblings, her co-workers and others. Therefore, I would like her to have a chance to learn more about HR. :)
