Glory is fleeting, but obscurity is forever. — Napoleon Bonaparte

Doing something bold doesn’t always mean going crazy. Sometimes glory comes from doing little things lots of times. Here are 10 ways to be bold in HR today.

  1. Cut a meeting in half.
  2. Eat lunch with someone who isn’t in HR.
  3. Question what kinds of behaviors your bonus plans encourage.
  4. Look up the word “ombudsman.” Then, be one.
  5. Learn about one critical thing your company does to make money.
  6. Encourage all your employees to wear seatbelts — in their cars, taxis, or limos.
  7. Read up on EFCA.
  8. Think about what project you’re working on that should be spiked.
  9. Toss out one piece of HR jargon.
  10. Start with “engagement.”

I can’t stop smiling after reading this entry. Every employed HR person should have this list on their desk today.

I’ve been drooling over the list presented by E a while back. Some of these items are definitely on MY list.

Another way to be bold in HR today is to get involved in online networking with other HR pros. It gives you the freedom to strategize, to discuss ideas, to challenge ideas, and to be challenged. Amazing tool for HR to grow our knowledge.

@Trish…great one. I spent 2 days last with with two HR leaders just brainstorming. We really kicked some ideas around…and it was refreshing.

E. here.

Frank, for the record, turned out my boss ended up being a total asshat. Heart of darkness. Bottom of the barrel bastard. He canned me a couple of months later. All talk. Small man syndrome. Reptile of a man. I was impressed at the beginning when I wroter the post. But most of what he was up to was smoke and mirrors, mostly PR, and very little substance. If there wasn’t something called simple battery I would pound him like the pussy he is.

Just a little update.

God that felt good. E.
