In This Market, It Pays to Broaden Your HR Scope
Posted on Friday, September 26, 2008 by Frank RocheThis quote by Robert Heinlein really struck me, especially as we’re thinking about how to respond in this rocky economy. HR is going to be under more pressure than ever, and it’s time to step up and broaden the set of skills that define us as “”human resources.”
“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly.”
Specialization is for insects. –Robert Heinlein

Frank,
I hate changing diapers, but I can sure pitch the manure!
