Sometimes It’s Just for Fun

We really dig Twitter at our shop. One day we were sitting around talking about how it’d be cool to have a contest for the best post in 140 characters. We registered “The Twitties,” got it written, designed and coded in a Philly second, and the nomination started pouring in.
We got over a thousand nominees and pared it down to a set of finalists in 12 categories. You can read a really cool mention about The Twitties we got in Wired today. It’s been a blast. Go vote if you’re so inclined. (You have to have a Twitter account to vote.)
What’s this have to do with HR, our business, or HR communication? Nothing. It was just fun. And what’s wrong with a few laughs along the way? Each day when I leave work I say the same thing: “Did we cure cancer or solve world hunger today? No? We’ll let’s try again tomorrow.” Meanwhile, having a blast is a good thing.

I think that you can have a blast and cure world hunger. Well, not maybe, “world hunger,” but when we have fun and serve others at the same time, we are making an impact on making the world a better place.
