If Music Be the Food of Love, Play On

NoteA rhetorical question, really. Could you imagine a movie without a soundtrack? Television? Your life?

Music is so powerful. Why don’t we use more of it in employee communication? We’ve become Johnny One Note, with electronic communication appealing to only one of our five senses. Something’s missing. Just gimme the beat boys, and free my soul.

I am curious how you use music to communicate with employees. What purposes would you use it for and how do your employees react? I love music, so I would love to learn more.

Hi Connie. I certainly think that during training it’s a must. Imagine the dull PowerPoint transformed with music. Music videos. Even using background music in the hyper-dull corporate video with the CEO talking head.

There’s a lot of research about music and memory triggers. Baroque music paces the heart at 60 beats per minute, so it’s great for test taking and accelerated learning. Music is emotional and allows people to have another way to call on learning.

I know there are all kinds of copyright issues, but they are by no means insurmountable. In fact, it’s easy.. I’ll write more on this.

BTW: Are your memories triggered by music?

I agree, Frank. Music definitely adds to a presentation and memory is definitely triggered by music. I always hear people listen to music (myself included) and begin their sentences with “I remember when…”
