Just Communicate!

This morning I took out a comma and this afternoon I put it back again.
–Oscar Wilde

That quote from Oscar Wilde sums up a how a lot of editing happens with HR communication. I mean, seriously, there’s a point when you just have to let that baby go. Edit once, edit right, and get out of there. Communicating with people means creating a conversation. It’s not for the sake of a comma the kingdom was lost. Just communicate!

Advertising legend David Ogilvy used to make fun of the ad people who believed that hours should be spent choosing the right typeface. Ogilvy imagined a conversation between his wife and another woman with one of them saying, “I’d have bought that product, if only they hadn’t set the ad in Garamond.”

Try having a CPA as your boss. I take something complicated, put it into laymen’s terms for the employees and then then he wants it switched back to legalese. UGH. I stopped showing him communications before they go out. MUHAHAHA!

HR Wench…I’m afraid there are a LOT of CPAs who think they’re writers out there. A LOT. It’s crazy. Good for you with your plan..ask for forgiveness instead of permission.

    Wally, that’s one I’ll quote. I love Ogilvy. Garamond…not so. ;-)

Good thing my boss and I studied at the same university…(what’s the connection?! Hehehe) I mean we can communicate calmly, or talk all about all things and that maybe is my advantage; so a comma will not be a problem if it’s suddenly became a period, as long as we communicate we can beat all the odds.
