When is an HR Program Perfect?

Posted on Friday, January 4, 2008 by Frank Roche

Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.
–Antoine de Saint-Exupery

That quote by the author of The Little Prince made me think about HR technology implementations. Are more features valuable? Or is it a matter of having your HR technology be fully functional, crisp and clean? (The same goes for performance management programs, L&D rollouts, and HR communications. I’ve been saying recently that if you could use boilerplate at another company without changing a word, throw it out.)

  1. They say that change is the only thing constant in this world. This is why I believe that there is no one formula for a perfect hr program. As long as it fulfills its tasks correctly and efficiently, the program is good. The program may have to change somewhere along the way but that only means it is adapting to meet its tasks.

Hi Jen! They have a saying in Dutch that is “Good is good enough.” It means do it really well, then be done.
