There Are Better Ways to Make Career
Apr 27I know, you thought I blew it on the headline. I didn’t. “There Are Better Ways to Make Career” is the flawed-English tagline of the most (obscene, creative, bold) recruitment fair poster I’ve ever seen. It’s by the German recruiting agency jobsintown.de.
WARNING: The image is very NSFW. If you’re easily offended, please don’t look. It’s why I didn’t provide a link up above or post the picture (even though it’s so tempting). The link is…well, it’s here. But please look at this in the company of no one. And if you do, I think you’ll get a laugh from the broken English.
How much nerve do you have with your recruiting? 50% of this? 10%. 1%?

There is SO MUCH more that people can do (get away with?) in Europe. (Well, unless you talk about your competition directly, which is a capital offense in many countries.)
But even without such a stark image, one could still be bold in the story they tell about their firm. Setting aside the shock value, this picture sets a very immediate tone — and they could’ve told a similarly strong story without being quite so (ahem) graphic.
Thanks for posting that, Frank!
John, you’re right, in Europe the rules (and the sensibilities) are different then they are in the U.S. I have to say, that poster was pretty shocking, but I guess that was their point…they ended up with derivative advertising. I agree with you, they could have done something provocative without the graphic graphic and still told a story about their company.
You know, I’m from Europe, actually from a german speaking country (which I suppose the poster is from), and I don’t find it offensive or obscene at all.
Mostly because it is based on a german colloquialism, “crawling into someone’s ass” (nothing sexual at all), which basically means “to suck up” to someone in order to get something.
From people who know german, this is a very amusing poster, and not even close to obscenity.
But, just as the tagline, it’s a germanism, which simply doesn’t work outside of Germany/Austria/Switzerland.
