How to Finagle a Day Off

Apr 25

I needed a few days off work, but I knew the boss would not allow me to take a leave. I thought that maybe if I acted “crazy” then he would tell me to take a few days off. So I hung upside down on the ceiling and made funny noises.

My co-worker asked me what I was doing.

I told her that I was pretending to be a light bulb so that the boss would think I was “crazy” and give me a few days off.

A few minutes later the boss came into the office and asked, “What are you doing?”

I told him I was a light bulb.

He said, “You’re clearly stressed out. Go home and recuperate for a couple of days.” I jumped down and walked out of the office.

When my co-worker followed me, the boss asked her “And where do you think you’re going?” She said, “I’m going home too. I can’t work in the dark!”

Oh, that’s FUNNY! Thanks for posting that.

John, for some reason that one cracked me up. I must have been in the mood for some HR humor.

  3. Hiya. We had some fun in the UK HR press recently – a organizations have started to give employees time off to look after sick pets. Made me laugh. When I got up off the floor I realised it was yest another reason (excuse) for the odd day off….where’s that dog of mine?

Scott, LOL. Wow…I guess that’s one form a flex day…although I must say that our Labrador Retriever, Snickers the Wonder Dog, is a family member. In fact, she gets more of the bed than I do! So, sick days to tend for an ill pet…I might need to sign on for that. ;-)

    Scott,

In parts of Colorado they have passed laws that give pets as much rights and protection as children. I wonder if we can get more sick days from this :)

  6. What about days off for haircuts – for your dog of course!

  7. Frank Roche says:

Alex, LOL. It’s all about the sick days. ;-)

Scott, I understand that the new haircut policy is that haircuts should be done at lunch on your own personal time…unless you own an Old English Sheepdog, then you can have half a day.
