How to Keep the Kids Happy

Posted on Thursday, October 5, 2006 by Frank Roche

I thought Niall Kennedy’s article about incentives and small, fast moving companies was on the mark. He says high performing teams (and geeks) benefit from shortened reward cycles, stimulating office environments, and generous training budgets.

I’m all over linking effort and reward – and doing it quickly. Spot bonuses work. And there’s nothing wrong with celebrating successes. (Although I have had puritanical bosses who said, “Well, we should have done it that well,” even in the face of overwhelming effort. To them I say, “Blech.”)
